Information About Animal Control

Joliet Township’s Animal Control Center bears the responsibility for sheltering stray or unwanted dogs and cats that are available for adoption at the Center. The Center has a population of puppies, kittens, and adult animals available for adoption. In an attempt to control the animal population, any adopted animal from the Center must be spayed or neutered as part of the adoption agreement.

Joliet Township Government’s Animal Control Ordinance

No stray animals shall be permitted upon the public through fares or public property in Joliet Township. Through intergovernmental agreements with the City of Joliet, the Village of Rockdale, and the City of Crest Hill, the Animal Control staff is also responsible for Animal Control within these municipalities.

24/7 Animal Control Support for Strays and Lost Pets

Animal Control Patrol Wardens respond to calls reporting loose and stray animals, to ensure they are picked up and brought back to the center in an effort to ensure the safety of the public. An Animal Control Patrol Warden is available on call 24 hours a day for emergency situations involving stray animals or abused animals during hours the Center is closed.

The staff at the Animal Control Center also takes calls for lost animals and attempts to assist the owner in locating a lost animal in the event that animal has been picked up and brought into the Animal Control Center.
