About Joliet Township Road District
The Road District is responsible for maintaining over 60 miles of roadways and six bridges within the Joliet Township’s Jurisdiction.
The Road District is under the leadership of the Highway Commissioner. The Highway Commissioner directs the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads and bridges within the township. Their main duties include letting contracts, hiring workers, and buying materials for road projects. They are also required to make a monthly report to the Will County Highway Commissioner.
Service and Permit Requests
The road district offers various services, such as parkway tree maintenance, street sign requests, and more. Please view the service request webpage for a full list of services. Apart from service requests, residents may complete the special permit request form out for other permissions.
Road District and Resident Responsibilities
Downspouts and Sump-pumps
- It is illegal to discharge fluids onto the road right of way. Downspouts and sump-pumps should discharge within the property of the homeowner.
Yard Waste
- Homeowners are responsible to dispose of leaves, branches, and yard waste. The Road District does not collect branches.
- The Road District will take down a tree in the parkway if the tree has died.
- Homeowners are responsible for the everyday maintenance of trees in the parkway.
Driveway Culverts
- The Road District is responsible to maintain proper drainage in open ditches. Homeowners are responsible for mowing their ditch and keeping it clear of debris.
- The Road District is responsible for replacing driveway culverts when necessary to maintain proper drainage. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to keep driveway culvert pipes clear of debris such as grass clippings, leaves, trash and children’s toys.
Storm Drains
- Please help the Road District to keep storm drains clear of debris. This helps to keep roads and property from flooding.
Roads
- The Road District is responsible for maintaining and improving all roads under the jurisdiction of Joliet Township Government. This includes drainage and the removal of snow and ice.
Drainage Ditches
- The Road District is responsible for mowing drainage ditches and parkway in unimproved areas.
Garbage Collecting
- Dumping on Township streets is illegal. Please report dumping to the Road District for cleanup.
- Homeowners are responsible for weekly garbage pickup and cleanup of litter in the parkways.
